Description:

First revealed as a concept at the 1993 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Plymouth Prowler quickly captured global attention with its bold, retro-inspired styling. Unlike most concept cars, the Prowler made the rare transition from show car to production vehicle, entering the market in 1997.

Designed as a modern interpretation of classic American hot rods, the Prowler featured dramatic 1930s-inspired styling, including an elongated front end, exposed front wheels and suspension, and a compact, open roadster-style body. Its distinctive appearance set it apart from anything else on the road at the time.

Despite its vintage look, the Prowler was engineered with modern technology. It utilised an aluminium-intensive construction to reduce weight and improve performance, along with fully independent suspension and large rear wheels for enhanced handling. Power came from Chrysler’s 3.5-litre V6 engine, paired with a rear-mounted transaxle to achieve near 50/50 weight distribution.

While it lacked the V8 many expected from a hot rod-inspired car, the Prowler delivered a unique blend of styling, engineering, and drivability. Production continued until 2002 (later sold under the Chrysler name), making it one of the most distinctive American cars of its era and a rare example of a concept car brought faithfully to life.
