Description:

Introduced in 1968, the AMC AMX was a bold entry into the American muscle car market. Unlike most muscle cars of the era, the AMX was a true two-seat sports coupe, developed from the AMC Javelin but built on a wheelbase shortened by nearly 12 inches. Its compact dimensions and powerful V8 engines made it one of the most distinctive American performance cars of its time.

The AMX was available with several engine options, including a 290 cubic inch V8, the popular 343 cubic inch V8, and the high-performance 390 cubic inch V8. The 343 engine offered strong performance while maintaining good drivability, helping the AMX compete with larger and more powerful muscle cars from rival manufacturers.

With its muscular styling, long bonnet, short rear deck, and distinctive twin power bulges on the bonnet, the AMX stood apart from its competitors. The car also featured an integrated roll-bar structure within the body shell, improving rigidity and safety.

Although produced for only a few years, the AMX earned a reputation as one of the most unique American muscle cars of the late 1960s. Its rare two-seat layout, short wheelbase, and powerful V8 engines make it a standout example of AMC’s innovative approach to performance motoring.
