Description:

The Ford Anglia 105E was launched in the UK on September 30th, 1959, as a completely new model aimed at the small family car market. It replaced the aging Anglia/Prefect 100E series and introduced Ford’s new 997 cc overhead-valve “Kent” engine paired with the company’s first four-speed gearbox in a production saloon.

While performance was modest, the Anglia offered good fuel economy and reliability. What really captured public attention, though, was the bold styling. The reverse-rake rear window was its most distinctive feature, marketed as a way to keep the glass clear in rain. Other design cues, like the sloped nose, rear fins, and chrome details on Deluxe models gave the car a unique, American-influenced character.

Between 1959 and 1968, more than 1 million Anglia 105Es were built, making it one of Ford’s most successful UK models. It also laid the foundation for the popular Ford Escort and helped establish the Kent engine as a Ford mainstay.
