Description:

Ferruccio Lamborghini was a self-made millionaire; he made a fortune by building tractors from army surplus left by the Allied Forces back in 1945.

Ferruccio had lots of money to spare and the GT car market at the time was still open for new things, money could still be made by building high speed, well finished cars, so Lamborghini started his own car company in early1963.

Developed in time for the 1963 Turin Auto Show, the first Lamborghini was the now legendary 350 GTV prototype. This sleek Gran Turismo was a hit at the show.

In June 1985, Automobili Lamborghini decided it was time to start thinking about a replacement for their legendary Countach; it would take the Lamborghini development team another five years to complete the new super car, the Diablo.

Chrysler owned Automobili Lamborghini from 1987 onwards and arrived right in the middle of the development.

The Diablo however is still a true Lamborghini, low, wide and extremely fast, its top speed was set at 325 Km/h., but on the Nardo test track, Sandro Munari managed to reach 340 Km/h. to place the new Lamborghini at the top of the super car market.

The Diablo VT was introduced in 1993 and stayed in production until 1998. The VT, meaning Viscous Traction.

A Roadster version of the VT was introduced in 1995. It was similar to the coupe but was given a removable carbon fibre roof panel which is stored above the engine compartment. When production ceased in 1998 only 200 VT Roadsters had being produced and only 8 in Right Hand Drive.
