Located at the entrance to Southward Car Museum on the Kāpiti Coast, the Southward Shop is open to everyone - you do not need a museum admission ticket to visit. Browse motoring gifts, Kiwiana souvenirs, model cars, books and exclusive Southward merchandise, or stop in for barista-made coffee, drinks and light refreshments. Indoor seating is available within the shop, with outdoor seating and a fully fenced children’s playground nearby.
Coffee Stop – Coffee & Light Snacks
Whether you’re starting your museum visit, taking a break between exhibits or simply calling in for a coffee, the Southward Coffee Stop is a welcoming place to sit and recharge. We serve fresh barista-made Emporio Coffee, along with hot chocolates, specialty drinks, cold beverages, muffins, slices and a changing selection of cabinet snacks.
Indoor seating is available within the shop, with additional outdoor seating beside the playground. You’re welcome to visit the Coffee Stop without purchasing museum admission, so you can call in for a drink or snack even if you’re not exploring the museum that day.
For something more substantial, there are plenty of cafés and restaurants throughout the surrounding Kāpiti Coast area, and our team is always happy to point you in the right direction.

Playground & Outdoor Seating Area
Families visiting Southward can take a break in our outdoor seating area beside the fully fenced children’s playground.
The playground gives younger visitors somewhere to play before or after exploring the museum, while shade sails provide cover on sunny days. The play equipment is well suited to younger children who are ready to burn off a little energy during their visit.
Right beside the playground, tables and outdoor seating provide a comfortable place for adults to relax. Umbrellas offer additional shade, and clear sightlines across the play area make it easy to keep an eye on children while they play.
Bring a coffee, cold drink or snack out from the Southward Shop and enjoy the surrounding grounds before heading back inside to continue your museum visit.
